Ever try driving to a vacation destination without a destination? Of course not! So why would it be any different for your health goals? It’s no wonder it’s hard to stay motivated to eat healthy and workout when we don’t know where we’re headed. Yet, we do it all the time!
Consider this, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18, KJV) Like me, have you ever been there? You don’t really know why you’re doing what you’re doing. And everything just seems meaningless and a waste of time and energy! Unfortunately, we just walk through life aimlessly without clear vision of what we want.
Psychology research shows that the mind can’t differentiate between a vision of something that actually happened and one that has not. So we need to have crystal clear vision and create a mental picture of what we want. Answering all the W questions as we imagine: who, what, when, where, and why. When we do this, we create a conflict in our mind between what’s true and what our vision shows to be true. To get balanced, our mind searches for ways to make our reality look like our vision.
So think about this… how much more are you motivated to drop the junk food, dairy and meat, and hit the gym when you can see yourself:
- sporting that cute bathing suit you have stashed away while at the beach for a weekend getaway with your besties.
- having tons of energy without caffeine to actually get everything crossed off your to do list and still have time to play with the kids AND spend quality time with your husband.
- rocking that dress you’ve been waiting to wear for a night to remember with your man.
Having vision for your health is more than just seeing the body you want. Consider what you want to do & achieve, who you want to be and be with, and how it feels to be there.
So create your vision and succeed!
